soonness

no, it's not a word. But soon-ness is how i'm feeling tonight. Everything is 'soon' at the moment. Waiting, with baited breath, when some things are going to happen. I'm going to have to be prepared, but i'm excited. Work is going to take off and go nuts, but i can't wait. I've had a few days of super good work stuff going on and i'm getting my mojo back. Goodness knows i need it.

and i'm hanging out to get a snapper card. So few people have them yet i'm all super jealous whenever i see someone actually USE those cool teardrop shaped things on the bus (which also make a great noise). Pay day next week may call for the purchase of one.

i'm also quite looking forward to the weekend - a bit of cooking dinners to freeze for the next few weeks, some baking and hopefully finishing thermal - so close to being done i can almost smell it!

That's all.

inspiration

One of the great bonuses of long weekends is the amount of time available to do anything you want. I spent all day yesterday thinking that today would be back to the office, and it was great reminding myself that oh no, I still have one whole day left!

So yesterday was spent having lunch with my Mum and at the library doing some much needed research. The old design habits are slowly returning - I'd forgotten how much i loved looking through books just for their pictures. It is fascinating what can jump-start the old imagination machine...I have in my possession for 4 weeks: a book on instructional design (hilarious!), one on Japanese design and a source book of flower, leaf and tree designs. All it took were three completely unrelated things to pop up randomly in relatively close succession for the next project to evolve...so i have yet one more creative project on my plate. Who needs work?! I could happily grow into a groove in the couch and knit, sew, draw, read and dream all day...

oooh...the next post is number 100! Which will probably be Wednesday...drop by for a give away!

vino, bad tv and collage

What a fab friday night - free wine at work, flat to myself, magazine inspiration spread all over the floor...bliss. Oh yeah, was meant to work on thermal. Got sidetracked, but it is still going!

February 15, 2008

is it friday already?

man this is awkward - lying on the bed, resting on my elbows to type on the laptop.

Not sure how i'm still functioning really - has been the maddest week. And was a super mad day today - fridays always are at work, which is a bit of a killer.

But somehow i managed to make a pattern and do masses of ironing (stash got washed and dried today) and a little bit of cutting out. Hopefully i'll be able to dedicate sunday to sewing...oh can't wait! plan for tomorrow - out to petone fair, maybe try and hunt out some drawers and a desk for the flat (my clothes have nowhere to live), and then see if i can sell some clothes to recycle boutique before spending all my money again at the global fabrics sale. mmmmmmmmmmmm fabric. might see what knit world has going at the same time...

next week we should have the mac all set up and i'll be back to more regular posting - have a fab weekend!

sleep, glorious sleep

I can't believe it's already 6pm on Sunday. Where has my weekend gone?

Friday night i was so exhausted i went to bed at 8, and when the boy got home around midnight and he said hello i could barely lift my head. The most frustrating thing was that i woke up at 6.10 am on saturday morning and couldn't get back to sleep again...so i eventually gave up, started sewing and organised everything for the market so the boy got to stay in bed til 9.

I'm super glad we did make it to the market - it is enforced relaxation time. I can sit and chat to people and hand sew and don't have all those niggly household jobs hanging over my head. It was a pretty quiet day yesterday but we still did ok. The best part of the day though was when a strange man quickly and quietly handed me a wad of papers - application forms for three local markets. woohoo! So in the coming months we will (hopefully) also be doing: the khandallah fair (9 Dec); the Newtown Fair (2 March); the Kilbirnie festival (6 April) aaaand all going well the two martinborough fairs in february and march next year. actually that would mean two fairs in two days but we'll have to plan well for that one.

Anyway i'll be glad of the excuse to make more ipod covers - when i was up at 7.30 yesterday sewing i remembered how much i love making them - they are actually relaxing, and i love putting together different fabrics and thinking of new embroidery designs to put on them. They haven't done terribly well at the aro market thus far but i don't think it's quite the right audience for them anyway.

And i just half-succesfully made us pho for dinner. (i think it's vietnamese soup). It worked really well considering i improvised on a few ingredients - but that is the story of my life.

Enough boring writing, here are some random photos.

I realised there wasn't a single pic of me on here. totally anonymous no more! Me and a very hairy boy on the way back from a trip to the mountain. Oh, for some snow!
And i didn't get to have any of my lovely toast this weekend due to lack of peanut butter in the house. Dumb. Maybe next weekend.
Not terribly exciting photos but i promise to work harder on that front. Here's to another mad week...

upside downside

Last night was fantastic. All the cliches - good food, good friends, good drinks. Lots of laughing. A very positive reaction to a prototype gift card given as an IOU birthday present.
But the boy also went out and drank too much to drive home, so i had a very lonely sleep. Whenever he's missing it makes me grumpy - it just isn't the same without him.
And the first day of daylight savings time has come up a crapper - wind, spitty, overcast. Ugh. It's not meant to be like this. This time last year daylight savings day was beeeeeeaaaautiful - the boy's birthday, golden sunlight, long day drinking beer and then practically carrying the (by then very drunk) boy home. Oh well. So we are devoting the rest of today to crafting. Finishing our stock of cards for the market next week and finishing off a whole load of pre-cut ipod covers for the same. it's definitely an inside day. I'll take photos, promise.

I Heart Jose Gonzalez

I heart Jose Gonzalez. I really do. He's helping me thru the day...

Gosh, I feel ass today. Is it the weather? A delayed hangover? Or is it because I haven’t done any exercise today? I think I need toast.

The weekend was brilliant. I can’t believe how much we fit in, and yet it didn’t feel rushed or busy at all. Nice and cruisey. Here’s how it went:

Friday night: pizza at Mum’s and then to WOW, with a wee drinkie in between. It was pretty incredible – at least, the garments were. Not so impressed by the show. (But that’s my critical events eye for you!)
Lolly cake on the way home with the boy, and late to bed…
Saturday: nice lazy sleep in, breakfast in bed, washing and then off to the warehouse to buy plastic tubs before going to red rocks. The boy biked, I ran. It was marvellous and refreshing. Then we went to Pukerua Bay to buy worms, and back to the boy’s parents to borrow a drill and put together our worm farm (hence the plastic tubs earlier). I’m so glad we finally did it – it’s been in the back of my mind for so long, and now we have about a thousand new pets to eat all our food scraps.
Then it was off home for showers before going in to town for a friend’s dinner. Let’s just say it was drinks all round. Which takes us to Sunday…
Sunday: Get up at 10.30 and decide the time is ripe for a hangover brunch at Eva Dixon’s (go the two for one Entertainment voucher!). On the way home we decide the boy needs new shoes via a nosey at the bike shop where I…buy a bike! My goodness, what am I on? But it is a beautiful Sarah Ulmer bike and I love it. Shoe shop was closed, after all that!
Back at home I bake a cake and make pincushions for my friend who comes over for afternoon tea, which is lovely and relaxing. Then the boy begs a headache to go back to bed and I head out on the green machine – that is my new pair of wheels. It was just fantastic to finally have my very own bike to ride, and I even went up hills on it. This is seriously major when one considers that I have never successfully biked up a hill in my life. A spot of soup for dinner, then a play with the bike while I put lights on it, and early bed.

What i did in the weekend...

my bag! i got a bit carried away dreaming up how i could do a compartmented lining to put all my gym gear in, which worked eventually but not as perfectly as i'd hoped. And it ended up way bigger than i intended - but now it's the perfect size to hold all my snowboarding gear. yay! (obviously i snipped off all the stray threads)

I'd been hanging out for ages to make hottie covers out of my old flannel pjs that i couldn't really bear to part with. The pattern needs a bit of refining...and i ended up feeling like a little kid as i carried my hottie around with me all weekend...

A couple of pincushions - these were so nice and easy but revealed that i need some more practice sewing in a circle!
